Our School's Stand on Social Media

At SS Peter & Paul, keeping children safe online is a priority. Social media can be fun and positive, but it also brings risks if children use it too young or without guidance.

Social Media Age Restrictions
Children should only use platforms that are appropriate for their age. Many sites and apps have a minimum age of 13, and some are older. This means that primary school children should not have access to these services.

School Expectations
Pupils should not be using social media in a way that affects their wellbeing, friendships, or learning. Any issues that spill into school life will be taken seriously and addressed.

Your role as parents

Know what your child is using – check the age limits on each app. This also includes any games they are playing on any devices especially those that require Internet access.

Set boundaries – agree rules together, like no phones in bedrooms overnight.

Talk often – let your child know they can come to you if something online worries them.

Stay involved – play games, watch videos, or explore apps with your child so you see what they are experiencing.

Top Tips

Keep devices in family spaces, not behind closed doors.

Use parental controls and privacy settings.

Remind children never to share personal information online.

Encourage kindness and respect in all online interactions.

Encourage children to report anything they see which is inappropriate.
